About

Virtual Event Lab is an ongoing research project aimed at expanding the conceptual portfolio of virtual and particularly “multilocal” events merging two or more physical spaces for a variety of event scenarios, from performances and rehearsals to classrooms.
  • A near-term objective of the project is to deliver one or more conceptual architectures describing technology platforms that could enable virtual events.
  • Each architecture would be based on one or more “content scenarios”, e.g. storyboards of different types of events that could be supported by the platform and in turn help determine the design of the platform.
  • The architectures will include general analysis and prescription plus explicit reference to available technologies, products, services, and methods.  The objective is to be able to substitute different products or methods in the same platform where appropriate.Although some architectures may be “professional” quality (high resolution, high bandwidth) with a necessarily higher price tag, others will be explicitly aimed at least-cost scenarios for wider adoption in more locations around the world.
The key deliverable will be a document that can serve as a set of blueprints,  a comprehensive cookbook for the design of specific types of multilocal events using current and near-term technologies.
Partners include the Learning Worlds Institute, CultureHub, HarvestWorks, and the Seoul Institute for the Arts.
